Each year, the University of Montpellier organizes the Innovation Prize through its University Innovation Hub (PUI) and in partnership with the Montpellier Metropolitan Area. This competition aims to reward researchers who successfully transform their scientific discoveries into high-impact projects.

To celebrate the winners of this edition, the official award ceremony took place at the Orangerie of the Jardin des Plantes in Montpellier, on the occasion of an "Innovation Afterwork." It was during this evening that our co-founder received the special "Coup de Cœur" award, presented directly by Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole.

An award rooted in Montpellier's academic research

It is precisely his status as an Associate Professor at the University of Montpellier and a pharmacist at the Nîmes University Hospital that is being recognized today. This "Coup de Cœur" prize, awarded directly by the Metropolitan Area, highlights years of academic work on 3D printing of medicines.

This field work had already been distinguished during the Companies & Campus challenge with the 3Dpedia project, which laid the foundations for 3D printing in pediatrics in connection with the Nîmes University Hospital. Today, within MB Therapeutics, Ian Soulairol co-leads the scientific development of this technology to allow it to reach the daily lives of hospitals and patients.

Why does 3D printing of medicines appeal?

3D printing of medicines makes it possible to meet specific needs, particularly in pediatrics, where standard dosage forms are not always suitable. This approach makes it possible to manufacture custom-made treatments by precisely adapting the dose of active ingredient to the weight and age of the child, while offering shapes and characteristics designed to facilitate the daily intake of the treatment (dispersible, orodispersible, etc.).
